“ I was going around the world searching for an interesting place, when I realized that the place I was in was already interesting”
Emmet Gowin.
This body of work explores the suburban landscape of Virginia as both a physical environment and an emotional construct. Inspired by the idea that a place is shaped by the gaze and inner world of the observer, the project reflects how personal experience, memory, and perception transform everyday surroundings into a subjective visual narrative.
Developed over 5 years through sustained observation and walking-based exploration of my neighborhood, the series examines light, streets, and residential architecture as spaces of quiet psychological resonance.
The work approaches the built environment with careful attention to geometry, atmosphere, and the subtle traces of human presence. My Suburbia proposes that the landscapes we inhabit are inseparable from the inner landscapes we carry, revealing the complex relationship between people and their environment
